Showcase – Moneta 2009

Moneta 2009 managed to draw upwards of 7500 participants pan India with presence from premier institutions throughout the country ranging across Management schools, IIM’s, Engineering colleges and Undergraduate colleges.

The main objectives of the financial extravaganza were to imbibe in the participants the ability and the financial acumen to handle situations that may arise in the increasingly complex financial markets of today.

From the above statistics it can very well be said that Moneta in its inaugural year was a mammoth success. It is with the very same aim as Moneta began its journey the last time round, we come to you with the second edition of Moneta; with renewed vigor and zest for finance and never ending quest for knowledge.

Moneta 2009 had speakers from amongst the who’s who of the Indian financial world. From chairmen of corporate leviathans like LIC and Mahindra Satyam, to luminaries from stock brokers, stock exchanges and regulatory bodies, the speakers enriched everyone with plenty of food for thought.

•  Mr. G. N. Bajpai | Past Chairman – LIC & SEBI



Mr. G.N. Bajpai has served for 3 years as the Chairman of Securities and Exchange Board of India, (SEBI). Earlier the Chairman of the Life India Corporation of India, Mr. Bajpai is credited with streamlining the securities watchdog and market regulator. It was during his tenure that India became one of the few countries to introduce 'straight through processing' (STP) in the stock market and that the derivatives market in equities has grown and developed.

•  Mr. Venkat Chary | Chairman – MCX



Mr. Venkat R. Chary, IAS (Retd.) served as the Chief Secretary, Principal Secretary and Secretary in various departments of the Central and State Government. He serves as the Chairman and Director of Indian Energy Exchange Limited. Mr. Chary serves as the Chairman of Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX) of India Ltd. at Financial Technologies India Ltd. and also of the Advisory Board at MCX Stock Exchange Ltd. Mr. Chary served as the Chairman of the Forward Markets Commission (FMC) Government of India. Mr. Chary holds Masters in Commerce, Bachelors Degree in Law, and a post-graduate diploma in Economics and Finance from the Institute International d'Administration Publique, Paris, France.

•  Mr. Nirmal Jain | Chairman – IIFL



Mr. Nirmal Jain, MBA, FHM founded India Infoline Ltd. in 1995 and has been Executive Chairman since May 7, 2011 and served as Managing Director of India Infoline Ltd. until May 07, 2011. Mr. Jain is an MBA from IIM Ahmedabad and holds ACA and AICWA degrees.

•  Mr. Niranjan Hiranandani | Chairman & MD – Hiranandani



Mr. Niranjan Hiranandani is a founder of Hirco and Co-founder of the Hiranandani Group. Mr. Hiranandani holds key positions in various Indian government bodies, private and social institutions, schools, and colleges. Leadership roles include President of the Maharashtra Chambers of Housing Industry (MCHI); Chairman of Development & Environment Committee of the Indian Merchants Chambers (I.M.C.) Mumbai; Member of the Task Force of the Government of India for reforms in Housing and Urban Development; and Member of the Study Group on Slum Rehabilitation Scheme, Government of Maharashtra.

•  Mr. Vallabh Bhansali | Chairman- Enam Group



Mr. Vallabh Bhansali, Co-founder and Chairman of Enam Group, is a leading investment banker, investor, venture capitalist and capital markets expert of the country. He has a deep interest and understanding in many fields, besides the field of finance, such as, religion, behavioral sciences and economic development. He serves as Director of Maya Entertainment Ltd. He also served as Director of AXIS Bank Limited. Mr. Bhansali has received many awards and honours including the citation of Veteran Economist of the Capital Markets from the Indian Council of Business.

•  Mr. R. K. Nair | Member (F&I) – IRDA



Mr. R. K. Nair joined as Member (F&I), Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority (IRDA) on March 18, 2010. Earlier, he was Executive Director, Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI), in charge of the Investment Management Department, Office of Investor Assistance and Education, National Institute for Securities Market, Corporate Debt Department, Research Department, General Services Department, and Vigilance. He is also Chief Public Information Officer. Before joining SEBI, Mr. Nair held senior positions in Corporation Bank, and was a Director on the Board of Corp Bank Securities Ltd, of the Debt Market Committee of the Bombay Stock Exchange, and of the Primary Dealers' Association of India. He has a postgraduate degree in science, law and management from Delhi University and holds a diploma in securities law from the Government Law College. He is a visiting faculty member at various institutions, including National Institute of Bank Management, National Insurance Academy, Bankers' Training College, Reserve Bank of India, and the Bombay Stock Exchange Training Centre.

•  Mr. C. Achutan | Past Director – NSE & Mahindra Satyam



Mr. C. Achuthan served as Chairman of the Board of Satyam Computer Services Ltd., as Director of Satyam BPO Limited, and of National Stock Exchange of India Ltd. Mr. Achuthan served as a Member of the Securities & Exchange Board of India. Mr. Achuthan served as the Chairman of the Securities Appellate Tribunal. Mr. Achuthan was a member of Law Commission of India, Advisory Board of BNP Paribas Group, India and a trustee of ING Mutual Fund. Mr. Achuthan held a Master’s degree in Economics from Kerala University and a Degree in Law from Bombay University.

•  Mr. M. S. Sahoo | Past Whole Time Director – SEBI



Mr. Madhu Sudan Sahoo joined SEBI as a Whole-Time Director on July 14, 2008. He has also held the position of Director of Capital Markets in the Finance Ministry.

•  Mr. S. Venkatraman | Sr. Director – CRISIL



Mr. S. Venkataraman, formerly Senior Director at CRISIL, is a Risk Management expert & Public Private Partnership specialist, Speaker & Advisor. Mr. Venkataraman has led several ratings, research and advisory businesses within and outside India and garnered extensive experience in credit ratings, credit risk management, enterprise risk management, securitisation, infrastructure privatisation and corporate governance evaluation.

•  Mr. Sudip Bandopadhyay | CEO & MD – Destimoney Securities



Mr. Sudip Bandyopadhyay is currently the Managing Director and CEO of Destimoney Securities, a full service financial organisation, promoted by New Silk Route – an Asia focused growth capital private equity firm with over $1.5 billion under management. Sudip is also an Independent Non-Executive Director of Hong Kong Mercantile Exchange. Mr. Sudip is a qualified Chartered Acoountant and a Cost Accountant. He has over 23 years of rich & diverse experience in various areas of financial services. He has worked with reputed organizations like Reliance (ADA Group), ITC, ICI and HLL.

•  Mr. Sanjay Dutt | CEO – Jones Lang LaSalle



Mr. Sanjay Dutt is the CEO at Jones Lang LaSalle Meghraj (JLLM), India’s leading real estate service provider, since October 2008. He has been associated with various associations like Asia Pacific Real Estate Association, CoreNet Global Workplace Community, India Inc - Corporate Realty and Infrastructure Investors and Developers Group.

•  Mr. Ambareesh Baliga | COO – Way2Wealth Brockers



Way2Wealth's chief operating officer Ambareesh Baliga heads the business verticals of Institutional Broking, which includes domestic institutions and institutional research. He is also responsible for the wealth management business. With more than 25 years of experience in stock markets, he is an expert in areas such as corporate finance, portfolio management, investment banking, car finance, marketing and distribution of various financial products.

•  Mr. Nilesh Shah | President, Corporate Banking – Axis Bank



Mr. Nilesh Shah has been the President of Strategic Initiatives Corporate Banking at AXIS Bank Limited since joining it in March 2011. Mr. Shah is leading AXIS Bank's initiatives in the Investment Banking space. He has served as Managing Director, Chief Executive Officer, and Portfolio Manager of various funds in the fund complex of ICICI Funds and has more than 20 years of experience in capital markets and market related investments, having managed money across equity, fixed income securities and real estate for local and global investors.
